Bill Parcells was born on November 22, 1941 in New York City. He attended St. Anthony's High School and then played college football at Fordham University, where he was a two-way player. He then went on to play as a safety for the New York Giants as well as for the Dallas Cowboys and the New England Patriots before retiring as a player due to knee injuries

Parcells was promoted to head coach of the Giants in 1983, and after three years resigned under pressure from his general manager George Young. He went back to coaching in the NFL and became head coach of the New England Patriots in 1991. He coached there for four years and led them to their first Super Bowl win in 1996.
Parcells then became vice president of football operations for the New York Jets, helping them reach their first AFC Championship Game in 1998. After two years, he left that role and became the head coach of the New York Giants (1999-2002), where he led them to their second Super Bowl title in 2000.
